The Hair Ball

Hair Ball Group Photo

This is one of Dayton’s most unique, exciting and visible fundraising events. The Hair Ball is a new event for the Humane Society. It is a fundraiser that is totally dedicated to the wonderful cats that we care for every day. Dayton area hair salons and stylists have agreed to participate is putting on one of Dayton’s most unique and eclectic events. Models will be “made-up” in wild designs and patterns (hair, make-up, clothing, etc) by individual salons and then they will parade down a catwalk past a panel of judges. Also the award winning whip artist Gery Deer will be performing with his assistant. Check out his website Gery and Scout and his Channel 12 news special. Catatonic drinks will be served and Donatos will be providing the food. This is sure to be an incredible event that will be the talk of the town.

THIS RECENTLY IN!

Title: First trailer released for indie film “Edenwood.”

October 31, 2007 – Lion Belly Productions of Ann Arbor, Michigan has released the first trailer for their new production called “Edenwood.”  The independent film is in the final stages of production and schedule for a spring 2008 release.

“Edenwood” is a comedy that, for lack of a better description, puts the audience in mind of a parody blend of Brokeback Mountain and High School Musical. Lion Belly’s first film, “Morgan,” is a horror film that had its world premier on October 29 at Eastern Michigan University.

The film’s director and producer, Jennifer Locke, received her master’s degree in fine arts from Wichita State University in 2001. Locke is now on the faculty at EMU in the College of Arts & Sciences.

“It is really awesome that so many people are getting together to help me along with this little project and I am truly grateful,” said Locke. The director’s enthusiasm as a creative artist inspires a fun but professional atmosphere on the set.

The cast and crew were made up of a dedicated and passionate group of students, professional actors, and technicians. In addition, Locke also employed one more unique cast member for the movie, if only for a brief part.

Whip artist and performer Gery L. Deer, of Jamestown, appears in this unlikely comedy playing the part of a western entertainer at a theme party that occurs in the story. Deer went on location in Michigan to shoot his segments early in October also appearing in other scenes as an extra.

“Thanks to my friend Joe Saul, who lives in Ann Arbor and referred me to one of the cast members, I got to be part of something really fun,” said Deer. “This had to be one of the most enjoyable and professionally done projects I’ve ever worked on.”

“Morgan,” will begin circulating through indie film festivals around the country with “Edenwood” following along next spring. For more information or to view the trailer, go online to www.thewhipstudio.com.

The trailer has been uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed here:

Gery L. Deer announces release of Signature Performance Whip

Designed by Gery L. Deer and made by Paul Nolan of Midwest Whips, the is the ultimate stage target and performance whip. This is a 5-ft., 12-plait, single-belly WHITE kangaroo hide (not painted or dyed after production) bullwhip with a 10-inch handle that is intended for stage performing. The white color has been used for years by stage performers and pays tribute to such greats as John Brady and many others. The shorter length allows greater space flexibility on tight stages. The unique knots are blue and black, utilizing the GLD Enterprises Whip Artistry Studio colors and perfectly enhancing this sleek piece of equipment, making it into true artwork.
